Jerry Jones may renew Mike McCarthy’s contract as Cowboys coach despite poor results

Mike McCarthy, head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, is in the final year of his contract. Despite the team potentially finishing with its second losing season under his leadership, Jerry Jones, the team’s owner, has not ruled out renewing McCarthy’s contract. McCarthy joined the Cowboys in 2020, and after a difficult start with a 6-10 record due to Dak Prescott’s injury, he has managed three consecutive seasons with 12 wins and 5 losses. This year, with Prescott sidelined again, McCarthy holds a 4-7 record. Despite the struggles and lack of postseason success, Jones has publicly supported McCarthy, praising him as an exceptional coach with great ideas. In five years with the Cowboys, McCarthy has won 46 of 78 games but has only secured one playoff victory. While speculation about a coaching change continues, Jones is not yet considering it.
