World No. 1 tennis player Jannik Sinner was proclaimed Australian Open champion after defeating Germany’s Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6 (7-4 in tie break), 6-3, to successfully defend his title as champion of this first Grand Slam, which he won in 2024.
Jannik equaled Federer and Nadal’s record.
In addition, Sinner won his third career Grand Slam and his third consecutive on hard court, making it clear that this is the surface on which Sinner feels most comfortable. Continuing with his records, the 23-year-old tennis player accumulated his 21st victory in a row, and became the first tennis player to win a Grand Slam without conceding a break point to his rivals since Roger Federer at Wimbledon 2003 and Rafel Nadal at the US Open 2017.
On the other side of the coin, Zverev lost to his third Grand Slam final, once again being denied this coveted trophy and joining as the sixth tennis player to contest three Grand Slam finals and lose all three times.
