Rickey Henderson, an MLB legend, passed away at the age of 65 due to pneumonia. The all-time leader in stolen bases (1,406) and runs scored (2,295), he won two World Series championships and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2009.

The baseball world is in mourning following the announcement of Henderson’s passing on Saturday. Known as “The Man of Steal,” Henderson’s prowess on the basepaths solidified his legacy as one of the greatest players in MLB history.

Henderson passed away on Friday after battling pneumonia. At 65, he leaves behind a legacy that transcends generations, ensuring his place in MLB lore.

Rickey Henderson’s Remarkable Records

Henderson’s reputation as one of the greatest in MLB history is well-deserved. While he is most remembered for his time with the Oakland Athletics, he also played for iconic teams like the Yankees, Padres, Mets, Red Sox, Dodgers, Angels, Mariners, and Blue Jays.

Debuting in 1979, Henderson’s career was nothing short of extraordinary. He set the all-time stolen base record with 1,406 in 1991, a feat no player has since surpassed.

In 1982, Henderson set another enduring record by stealing 130 bases in a single season, the most in MLB history.

In addition to his stolen base records, he holds the all-time MLB record for runs scored with 2,295. Henderson also won two World Series titles—one with the Athletics in 1989 and another with the Blue Jays in 1993. In 1990, he was named the American League MVP and was selected to the All-Star Game 10 times.

Henderson retired from baseball in 2003 and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009 in his first year of eligibility.
