Real Madrid triumphed 4-2 over Sevilla, finally surpassing Barcelona in the standings. The Merengues are now in third place, behind Atlético Madrid and above Barça.
Real Madrid achieved their goal of overtaking Barcelona this season with a 4-2 victory over Sevilla. However, this victory was bittersweet as, despite surpassing Barça, they found themselves in second place, with Atlético Madrid now the leaders of the competition.
Madrid Starts Strong
The match took place at the Santiago Bernabéu, where the home team came out firing. In the 10th minute, Kylian Mbappé received a ball from Rodrygo just outside the penalty area. He calmly moved the ball to his right before unleashing a powerful shot that found the top right corner of the net for a stunning goal.
At the 20th minute, Federico Valverde responded with an even more impressive strike. From outside the box, he sent a shot that curled into the far post, passing through defenders and goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
Madrid’s Party Continues
The Galácticos’ celebration continued in the 34th minute when Lucas Vázquez made a run down the right, crossing into the area for Rodrygo. In a moving penalty kick, Rodrygo connected with the ball and placed it in the far right corner of the net, leaving the goalkeeper no chance and making it 3-0.
Sevilla Responds with a Header
Sevilla quickly responded just a minute later. In the 35th minute, a cross from Juanlu Sánchez found Isaac Romero in the box, and he rose to head the ball into the net, reducing the deficit to 3-1.
Brahim Adds Another for Madrid
In the second half, both teams had a few chances, but once again, it was Real Madrid who struck. In the 53rd minute, the team crafted a beautiful play, breaking through Sevilla’s defense. The ball fell to Brahim Díaz, who finished with a powerful shot to make it 4-1 for the home side.
Lukébakio Scores for Sevilla
In the 85th minute, Dodi Lukébakio scored the final goal of the match. A long pass broke through the defense, and Lukébakio entered the box unchallenged, striking with power. Despite Courtois getting a hand to the ball, the shot’s force was too much, leaving the score at 4-2.
With this victory, Real Madrid reached 40 points, one behind Atlético Madrid, and two ahead of Barcelona.
