The team representing Mexico in the Caribbean Series, Charros de Jalisco, saw their hopes of ending the country’s championship drought in this tournament come to an end. The representatives from the Dominican Republic, Leones del Escogido, secured a 1-0 victory in a game that kept fans on the edge of their seats for all nine innings.
A Lone Run in the Third Inning Decided the Game
For the first two innings, both teams’ defenses and outstanding pitching performances kept the scoreboard at zero. It wasn’t until the top of the third inning that Robinson Canó stepped up to bat with the bases loaded and hit a grounder, allowing Junior Lake to reach home plate.
After this breakthrough, both defenses remained impenetrable, and as the innings progressed, Mexico’s chances of tying the game slowly faded. However, with just one run potentially altering the outcome, the tension remained high until the final pitch.
In the end, Lake’s lone run secured the Dominican Republic’s 23rd Caribbean Series title and the fifth championship for Leones del Escogido, while leaving Mexico just short of glory once again, extending their championship drought, which dates back to 2016, for yet another year.
