Iga Swiatek in trouble, tennis player sanctioned for doping
Former world No. 1 tennis player, now ranked second in the world, Iga Swiatek, received a one-month ban from the courts for testing positive for a banned substance in her system. The Polish tennis player tested positive for trimetazidine, a metabolic agent that helps the body’s oxygenation to metabolize fatty acids faster. For this reason, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) decided to suspend one of today’s top tennis players for a full month. Swiatek, who accepted the suspension, told the ITIA that she ingested the agent involuntarily while taking medication to treat her sleep disorder. Iga had already been provisionally suspended while her case was being tested, this was from the period of September 22 to October 4 of this year.
