Matchday 5 of the Europa League Concludes

Matchday 5 of the UEFA Europa League saw Lazio, Athletic Bilbao, and Eintracht Frankfurt leading the standings with 13 points. Tottenham slipped to ninth place, Manchester United climbed the table, while Roma and Porto face playoff challenges. The UEFA Europa League, the other face of European football, wrapped up its Matchday 5 action. With the latest results, Lazio retained the top spot for the second consecutive week, holding the lead on goal difference. Athletic Bilbao and Eintracht Frankfurt closely follow, completing the Top 3 of the overall standings. All three teams boast 13 points, but Lazio holds a +9 goal difference, Athletic sits at +7, and the German side at +5.     Direct Qualification Spots Rounding out the top eight, which qualify directly for the Round of 16, are Galatasaray and Anderlecht in fourth and fifth, respectively, both with 11 points. The update to the Pan American Judo Confederation ranking highlights several Mexican judokas in top positions as they aim to secure their qualification for the Junior Pan American Games Asunción 2025. The Pan American Judo Confederation’s latest ranking update highlights several Mexican judokas in top positions as they aim to secure spots for the 2025 Junior Pan American Games in Asunción.      Following the 2024 Pan American Cup in Montreal, where Mexico earned seven medals—one gold, three silver, and three bronze—Mexican athletes have improved or solidified their rankings.  Top-ranked judokas include Frida Maya, leading the -57 kg category with 420 points; Aylin Ávila, second in -52 kg with 620 points; Renata Sandoval, second in -70 kg with 380 points; and Eduardo Sagastegui, third in -60 kg with 490 points.  You might also be interested in: William Arroyo to Compete in the 2024 Taekwondo Poomsae World Championship in Hong Kong  Other standout Mexican judokas ranked among the top eight in their categories include María Cruz (-63 kg), Yamileth Juárez (-70 kg), Rafael Ramírez (-73 kg), Carlos Hernández (-60 kg), Gerardo Castelán (+100 kg), Paula Sánchez (-78 kg), Bárbara Sánchez (+78 kg), and Ian Aguirre (-66 kg).      The final two tournaments for ranking points are the Junior Pan American Cup and the Junior Pan American Championship, scheduled for April 2025. Mexico will aim to secure the maximum number of spots in these events.  The qualification system for Asunción 2025 grants spots to the top seven in each category, an additional spot for the host nation, and a maximum of one competitor per country per weight division.

Iga Swiatek in trouble, tennis player sanctioned for doping

Former world No. 1 tennis player, now ranked second in the world, Iga Swiatek, received a one-month ban from the courts for testing positive for a banned substance in her system. The Polish tennis player tested positive for trimetazidine, a metabolic agent that helps the body’s oxygenation to metabolize fatty acids faster. For this reason, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) decided to suspend one of today’s top tennis players for a full month. Swiatek, who accepted the suspension, told the ITIA that she ingested the agent involuntarily while taking medication to treat her sleep disorder. Iga had already been provisionally suspended while her case was being tested, this was from the period of September 22 to October 4 of this year. The NFL doesn’t stop! Black Friday brings one more game

After an exciting three-game day of Thanksgivining, the NFL action doesn’t stop. This Week 13 matchup will give us one more game today thanks to the “Black Friday” celebrated in the United States. It is the clash between the current champions, the Kansas City Chierfs, against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Chiefs, with their 10-1 streak, are the best team in the American Conference, while the Raiders, with their 2-9 streak, are one of the two worst teams in the same division. Still, don’t count out what the Las Vegas team can do in its visit to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, as last week, the Carolina Panthers put up a fight against the champions. MICK SCHUMACHER BIDS FAREWELL TO MERCEDES IN 2024

The German driver seeks new opportunities after two years as a reserve driver for the Brackley-based team. End of an Era at Mercedes Mick Schumacher, who joined Mercedes in 2023 as a reserve driver, will leave the team at the end of the 2024 season. During his time with the Silver Arrows, Schumacher played a crucial role in the simulator and testing, contributing to car development and providing key support during race weekends. Schumacher, who previously raced for Haas F1 Team, took on this role after two seasons on the Formula 1 grid. However, his ambition to return to active competition drives his search for new opportunities in 2025. Confirmed Return to WEC with Alpine Alongside his duties at Mercedes, Schumacher competed in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) with Alpine, where he will continue racing in 2025. Alpine has already announced him as one of its six drivers for the upcoming season, solidifying his presence in endurance racing. On his departure from Mercedes, Toto Wolff, team principal, expressed his gratitude: “Mick’s work in the simulator and his commitment to the team have been invaluable. He is a driver of great talent who deserves to compete at the highest level. Recently, Sauber evaluated the possibility of including him in their lineup but ultimately chose rookie Gabriel Bortoleto for the next season. MONZA SECURES ITS FUTURE IN FORMULA 1 UNTIL 2031

The iconic Italian circuit will continue to host the Italian Grand Prix following a new contract extension. The Historic Agreement Extension The Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, known as the Temple of Speed, will remain on the Formula 1 calendar until 2031. This extension, adding six years to the current agreement, solidifies Monza’s importance as one of the most iconic venues in motorsport.     The announcement follows recent infrastructure upgrades made ahead of the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, which welcomed over 335,000 fans. Built in 1922, Monza has hosted the Italian Grand Prix nearly every season since the World Championship began in 1950, except for 1980, when it closed for renovations. A Circuit That Makes History Located near Milan, Monza is distinguished by its 5.8-kilometer track, renowned as one of the fastest circuits on the calendar, with drivers at full throttle for 80% of the lap. In 2020, Lewis Hamilton set the fastest lap in Formula 1 history by average speed, clocking 264.362 km/h during qualifying. Legendary figures like Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, and Juan Manuel Fangio have triumphed at Monza, while current stars like Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc continue to write new chapters at this historic track. Commitment to the Future Formula 1 has seen remarkable growth in Italy, with a cumulative audience of 183.3 million in 2023 and a 16% increasein social media followers. Local authorities, led by the Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI) and supported by the Italian Government and the Lombardy Region, have invested heavily in recent circuit upgrades.     According to Stefano Domenicali, president of Formula 1, these investments reflect a commitment to sustainability and improving the fan experience. Upgrades have included track resurfacing, enhanced access, and improved safety measures for both drivers and spectators. América takes a step closer to the semifinals of Liga MX after defeating Toluca

América defeated Toluca 2-0 in the first leg of the Apertura 2024 quarterfinals, with a brace from Rodrigo Aguirre. Despite the advantage, Toluca can still advance if they equalize the aggregate score.  The Apertura 2024 tournament’s playoff began with a thrilling match between two of the top five clubs in Mexican football: América and Toluca. The home team dominated and secured a 2-0 victory, moving them one step closer to the semifinals of Liga MX.  Here’s how América defeated Toluca In the first half, América controlled the game, making Tiago Volpi, Toluca’s goalkeeper, the standout figure after several crucial saves. Despite creating several chances, the home team was unable to score until the 28th minute, when a goal was ruled out for offside, leaving the score 0-0 at halftime.  In the second half, América continued to dominate, with Rodrigo Aguirre converting their chances. First, he scored a header in the 66th minute, and then in the 82nd minute, he netted his second goal of the match, securing the victory for the “Águilas.”  Also interested: What about the top seed? Cruz Azul was thrashed by Xolos in the first leg of the Liga MX quarterfinals With this result, América heads into the second leg with an advantage, but Toluca still has the chance to come back, needing only to equalize the aggregate score to advance, thanks to their position in the standings. After Five Matchdays, the Champions League Standings Begin to Take Shape

After five Champions League matchdays, Liverpool leads with a perfect record, followed by Inter, Barcelona, and Dortmund. In contrast, major teams like Manchester City, Juventus, Real Madrid, and PSG are facing significant drops in the standings. Another round of UEFA Champions League action has come to an end, bringing notable shifts in the overall competition standings. After five matchdays, Liverpool’s flawless run stands out, along with Inter’s consistency and the repositioning of Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, and Bayer Leverkusen among the top spots. Meanwhile, teams like Manchester City, Juventus, and Real Madrid suffered setbacks.     The Top of the Table The top eight teams, which secure direct qualification to the Round of 16, include the aforementioned super-leader Liverpool. Behind them is the tournament’s other undefeated team, Inter, with 13 points. Barcelona and Dortmund are in third and fourth places with 12 points each. In fifth place, the surprise of the season, Atalanta, holds 11 points. Completing these spots, Bayer Leverkusen, Arsenal, and Monaco occupy sixth, seventh, and eighth places respectively, each with 10 points.     Teams Reclaiming Momentum In the middle of the standings, within the 16 playoff-qualifying positions, are clubs that have begun to pick up points and now pose a threat to the leaders. Bayern Munich sits in 13th place with 9 points, just behind Aston Villa, Sporting Lisbon, Stade Brestois, and LOSC Lille, all of whom have 10 points.     Other teams regaining their footing include Atlético Madrid and AC Milan, who are in 15th and 16th places respectively. Further back, Juventus occupies 19th place, also with 8 points, but with a worse goal difference than City and PSV, having managed two draws and a loss in their last three matches.     Lower down are the real surprises.
