The Diablos Rojos defeated the Halcones de Xalapa in Game 1 of the LNBP Grand Final

The Diablos Rojos del México defeated the Halcones de Xalapa 89-80 in Game 1 of the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional Grand Final, despite a challenging start with a 28-19 first-quarter score. The Halcones took an early 12-0 lead, but the Diablos adjusted, narrowing the gap and finishing the opening quarter at 28-19. In the second quarter, the Rojos continued to close in and ended the first half trailing by just 42-40. The Diablos improved their three-point shooting in the third quarter, sinking three triples in two minutes to take a 59-49 lead and ending the quarter at 71-61. Finally, in the last period, with a 10-2 run, the Diablos extended their lead to 85-69, sealing an 89-80 victory. The scarlet team now aims to extend their advantage in Game 2, set to take place today at 8:00 PM (Mexico City time) at the Juan de la Barrera Gymnasium.  You may also like: Incredible! Judokas Near Qualification for Junior Pan American Games Asunción 2025

The update to the Pan American Judo Confederation ranking highlights several Mexican judokas in top positions as they aim to secure their qualification for the Junior Pan American Games Asunción 2025. The Pan American Judo Confederation’s latest ranking update highlights several Mexican judokas in top positions as they aim to secure spots for the 2025 Junior Pan American Games in Asunción.      Following the 2024 Pan American Cup in Montreal, where Mexico earned seven medals—one gold, three silver, and three bronze—Mexican athletes have improved or solidified their rankings.  Top-ranked judokas include Frida Maya, leading the -57 kg category with 420 points; Aylin Ávila, second in -52 kg with 620 points; Renata Sandoval, second in -70 kg with 380 points; and Eduardo Sagastegui, third in -60 kg with 490 points.  You might also be interested in: William Arroyo to Compete in the 2024 Taekwondo Poomsae World Championship in Hong Kong  Other standout Mexican judokas ranked among the top eight in their categories include María Cruz (-63 kg), Yamileth Juárez (-70 kg), Rafael Ramírez (-73 kg), Carlos Hernández (-60 kg), Gerardo Castelán (+100 kg), Paula Sánchez (-78 kg), Bárbara Sánchez (+78 kg), and Ian Aguirre (-66 kg).      The final two tournaments for ranking points are the Junior Pan American Cup and the Junior Pan American Championship, scheduled for April 2025. Mexico will aim to secure the maximum number of spots in these events.  The qualification system for Asunción 2025 grants spots to the top seven in each category, an additional spot for the host nation, and a maximum of one competitor per country per weight division.

Swami Rizzi to Compete in the Breaking World Final in Brazil

Swami Rizzi, a 19-year-old Mexican athlete, will compete in the 2024 Red Bull BC One World Final in Brazil following a remarkable year in breaking with multiple podium finishes.  The national breaking athlete will conclude her competitive year by participating in the Red Bull BC One World Final on December 7 at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  Originally from Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Swami aims to add another medal to her record this year. She expressed her readiness to face the top competitors in this international event, the most prestigious in breaking.  “Each year I aim for improvement. This 2024 was better than 2023; I surpass myself every time. I was on the podium about 10 times this year, represented Mexico well, and won several national competitions that will take me to international events in 2025,” she stated.      “This upcoming competition means a lot to me, and I am happy to represent Mexico again and compete against the world’s best. I love this excitement and feel triple-ready to perform well,” added ‘B-girl Swami,’ a three-time CONADE Nationals champion.  You might also be interested in: Canada takes gold in breaking b-boys As the sole representative of Red Bull Mexico in this discipline, Swami trained at the National Center for Talent Development and High Performance Sports (CNAR) in preparation for the pre-Olympic tournaments in Shanghai and Budapest. Although she did not qualify for Paris 2024, she highlighted CNAR’s support in facing future challenges in her career. “I love being able to connect and stay close to people passionate about sports, always willing to support and recognize athletes’ talent and effort. It’s very encouraging, not just for me but also as an example for new generations,” she said.

América takes a step closer to the semifinals of Liga MX after defeating Toluca

América defeated Toluca 2-0 in the first leg of the Apertura 2024 quarterfinals, with a brace from Rodrigo Aguirre. Despite the advantage, Toluca can still advance if they equalize the aggregate score.  The Apertura 2024 tournament’s playoff began with a thrilling match between two of the top five clubs in Mexican football: América and Toluca. The home team dominated and secured a 2-0 victory, moving them one step closer to the semifinals of Liga MX.  Here’s how América defeated Toluca In the first half, América controlled the game, making Tiago Volpi, Toluca’s goalkeeper, the standout figure after several crucial saves. Despite creating several chances, the home team was unable to score until the 28th minute, when a goal was ruled out for offside, leaving the score 0-0 at halftime.  In the second half, América continued to dominate, with Rodrigo Aguirre converting their chances. First, he scored a header in the 66th minute, and then in the 82nd minute, he netted his second goal of the match, securing the victory for the “Águilas.”  Also interested: What about the top seed? While this step does not involve an initial public offering (IPO), it marks a significant move towards a new era of transparency and economic participation in sports. The BMV has highlighted this move as an important step towards reaching the “Major Leagues” of the financial world. William Arroyo to compete in the Taekwondo Poomsae World Championship in Hong Kong 2024

William de Jesús Arroyo Reyes traveled to China with the national team to compete in the Hong Kong 2024 World Taekwondo Championship, where he aims to stand out in both individual and pair freestyle events with Cecilia Lee.  The three-time world champion in taekwondo poomsae, William de Jesús Arroyo Reyes, traveled this Monday with the national team to China for the World Championship in Hong Kong 2024, which will be held from November 30 to December 4. Mexico will be represented by 52 athletes in this event.      “Since the start of the year, we’ve been working hard. After the Pan American Games, we kept training for this World Championship, so we’ve had almost a year of preparation, and now we just need to enjoy it,” shared the Oaxaca native in an interview with the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (CONADE).  William will compete in the individual freestyle category, where he is the current world runner-up, and in pair freestyle with Cecilia Lee, with whom he won the gold medal at the Goyang 2022 World Championship.  “Mexico is a powerhouse at the global level, with great taekwondo athletes, both in combat and poomsae. It’s amazing that Mexico is seen as a top team, and I believe the Mexican delegation will put on a great show there,” said the also gold medalist at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.  You might also like: Paula Fregoso to compete in her fourth Taekwondo Poomsae World Championship in Hong Kong 2024 The Oaxaca native, who has earned gold medals at the World Championships in Lima 2016, Taipéi 2018, and Goyang 2022, recalled how he began taekwondo at an early age, encouraged by his father, Víctor Hugo Arroyo.      “I started taekwondo when I was young, thanks to my father, who is my coach. I dedicated myself 100% to poomsae, and when freestyle was introduced at the National Olympics (now CONADE Nationals), I fell in love with it. Now, I’m preparing for this World Championship in the freestyle I love. Taekwondo is life; it has given me a reason to keep going, and I enjoy it so much both in and out of the ring because taekwondo always teaches you many things and values,” he said.  Finally, he shared his determination to give his best at Hong Kong 2024.  “More than anything, I just want to enjoy it, give my best, and support the entire Mexican team because I believe we’re going to give our all.”

What happened to the superleader? Cruz Azul suffers a heavy defeat against Xolos in the first leg of the Liga MX quarterfinals

Cruz Azul, under the leadership of Martín Anselmi, suffered a surprising 0-3 loss to Xolos at the Estadio Caliente, complicating their future in the tournament. The first goal came in the 11th minute from Raúl Zúñiga, capitalizing on an error by Willer Ditta. Efraín Álvarez doubled the lead in the 18th minute, and as if that wasn’t enough, Jorge Sánchez was sent off for a foul on Zúñiga.  Before halftime, Emanuel Reynoso added a third goal for Xolos, leaving the “celestes” in a tough spot. In the second half, Anselmi made some changes to alter the flow of the game, but the team failed to react. Donovan Carrillo prepares for the final phase of his season after winning silver in Germany

Mexican figure skater Donovan Carrillo celebrated his 25th birthday by winning silver at the NRW Trophy 2024. He spoke with Rommel Pacheco and shared his plans for upcoming events like the Bavarian Open.  Carrillo visited the facilities of the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (CONADE) and talked with Rommel Pacheco, the institution’s general director, about his next competitions. This followed his silver medal win at the NRW Trophy 2024 in Dortmund, Germany, on November 17, coinciding with his 25th birthday.  “Winning a silver medal on my birthday was a very special achievement, and I enjoyed it a lot. It was beautiful because, even though I knew it was my birthday, I tried to give my best, enjoy the competition, and it felt like a great reward,” the skater shared with CONADE.      In the competition, Carrillo scored 62.56 points in the short program and 131.45 in the free program, achieving a total score of 194.01.  “I felt good in this competition in Germany, calm and very relaxed. I had the opportunity to compete in the NRW the previous year, and just like this year, I repeated the silver. It’s a rink I really like, and I enjoy the atmosphere of this competition, so I felt very familiar with everything I was experiencing at that moment,” he highlighted.  You might also like: Donovan Carrillo completed his participation in the national tournament ahead of the 2025 World Championships The athlete, known as the first Mexican to qualify for a figure skating Olympic final at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, shared details about his upcoming sports events.      “What remains of this season is the most important part, the final trimester, which closes strong. But before that, in January, I will be participating in the Bavarian Open in Germany, and I’m very excited and motivated to continue growing. I think there’s a lot of room for improvement in my routines, so I’m giving my best to make the most of those pieces of music I love,” he concluded.

Diablos Rojos and Halcones de Xalapa ready for the LNBP grand final

In their debut season in the National Professional Basketball League (LNBP), the Diablos Rojos del México have secured a spot in the finals, where they will face the Halcones de Xalapa. At a press conference, the scarlet team’s president, Othón Díaz, expressed his excitement and highlighted the efforts of the players and coach Nicolás Casalánguida. Meanwhile, Casalánguida acknowledged the consistent performance of the Halcones and their coach, Paco Olmos, while emphasizing the effort behind building the Diablos’ roster. The final series will begin on November 28 and 29 in Mexico City, with the next two games scheduled for December 2 and 3 in Xalapa.
